Straight 6 engine animation Posted by: TheRenalicious
Video duration: 17 seconds An animation of a straight / inline 6 engine. There are 3 piston pairs, and this engine is perfectly balanced. Power strokes overlap even more. While not as common as it once was, this engine is still widely used in BMWs. Related: animation, engine, straight |

Porsche 968 racecar Posted by: TheRenalicious
Video duration: 20 seconds August 3rd 2008 at Pacific Raceways, group 4. A quick video of Eric Krause's #39 Porsche 968 racecar going down the front straight. The car has a stock power train except for: lightweight Fidanza flywheel, RS Barn headers, cone intake. Currently it uses the stock cat back exhaust + test pipe, which is why it's so quiet :) Related: group, pacific, porsche, 4, 968, car, race, raceways |

V8 engine animation 2 Posted by: TheRenalicious
Video duration: 17 seconds An animation of a crossplane V8 engine. Unlike a flatplane V8, a crossplane has piston pairs on opposing side of the engine; one piston from each bank will rise and fall at the same time. This also causes each bank to fire twice in a row. The firing order is not of any particular make or model. Related: animaiton, crossplane, engine, v8 |

V4 engine animation #2 Posted by: TheRenalicious
Video duration: 17 seconds An animation of a V4 engine, using a 90 degree flying pin design. Like a boxer 4, piston pairs are located on the same crank position, except at a 90 degree spread. The rear piston trails the front one by 90 degrees, thus piston pairs lay on different crank pins. Related: animation, engine, flying-pin, v4 |

Flat 4 engine Posted by: TheRenalicious
Video duration: 17 seconds An animation of a flat 4 boxer engine. Two piston pairs firing at every 180 degrees. Related: animation, boxer, engine, flat-4 |

Flat 12 engine Posted by: TheRenalicious
Video duration: 17 seconds An animation of a flat 12 engine. 6 piston pairs firing at every 60 degrees. Notice that the layout is NOT a boxer, 2 pistons share a common crank pin. Related: animation, engine, flat-12 |

V12 engine animation Posted by: TheRenalicious
Video duration: 17 seconds An animation of a v12 engine. A v12 engine acts similar to a flatplane V8 in that there are piston pairs in the same bank: 1-6, 2-5, 3-4, 7-12, etc. The firing order is not from any particular make or model of engine. Firing order Related: animation, engine, v12 |

V8 engine animation Posted by: TheRenalicious
Video duration: 17 seconds An animation of a flatplane V8 engine. A flatplane V8 is basically two inline 4 engines sharing a common crank. 4 piston pairs, 2 on each side. This type of V8 is most commonly used in Ferrari's. Related: animation, engine, flatplane, v8 |

V10 engine animation Posted by: TheRenalicious
Video duration: 17 seconds An animation of a V10 engine. Similar to a crossplane V8, a V10 has piston pairs on opposite sides of the engine; a piston from the left and right bank will rise and fall together. Unlike a crossplane V8, no bank will fire twice. The firing order is a bit weird in this video, but I'm too lazy to change it at the moment ;) Related: animation, engine, v10 |

V6 engine animation Posted by: TheRenalicious
Video duration: 17 seconds An animations of a v6 engine, 120 degree spread. An even fire engine with two pistons per crank pin. This is not a common v6 configuration because it makes the engine too wide to fit into most vehicles. Related: 120degrees, animation, engine, v6 |

Straight 8 engine animation Posted by: TheRenalicious
Video duration: 17 seconds An animations of a straight / inline 8 engine. There are 4 piston pairs, and a power stroke every 90 degrees.
